Well, would you believe it, just as the weather becomes warm and wonderful, all those stamp collections I’d been waiting for, turn up to keep me away from the seafront and chained to my desk. At least it’s a saving on sunblock!
The new collections are filling in a lot of our gaps and hopefully will do the same for yours. Firstly it was some useful Belgian Congo and Ruanda-Urundi, then a wonderful collection of Cameroun and Togo These two colonies included a good section of USED examples. Some of those mid-century long sets include some difficult-to-find used values which are not truly reflected in the Catalogue valuations, so get them when you can, if used is your penchant.
Other additions to stocks included TAAF (M&U), Syria (with nice airmails), Chad, AEF, Senegal, Somali Coast, Afars & Issas, Obock, Comoro Islands, Middle Congo and Madagascar. Our stocklists will include all these additions. There is still much to do and there has been a good number of interesting bits for our next extraneous list in July.
As I mentioned last time, we have revised our “Start a New Colony” brochure which is shown on this website under “Articles”. Although popular, it was rather complicated, so now we have simplified it to a colony starter pack for £100 (for which one receives stamps to the value of £130 from our stocks).
Don’t forget to let me know if you would like to go on the list for the new French Colony catalogue which SG have promised for later this year (hopefully). You won’t be obligated to buy when the time comes.
Meanwhile enjoy these summer days and take good care in the garden etc. Unfortunately, I didn’t take my own advice and, while recently trying to remove some rogue ivy, I slipped and went down like a ton of bricks on to some concrete steps. It all happens very quickly and I was lucky to just end up somewhat black and blue but with no breakages. So my tweezers are still working, but I’ll be more careful next time. New motto: "Don’t fall over"
Terry Garcia.
