4/1739 Clean early 1877 cover from Algeria to the Misses Cobden at Midhurst in Sussex bearing French 5c & 25c blue tablets with ALGER CDS's. On reverse, Marseille & Calais cds's plus nice clear Midhurst cds. The Misses Cobden were the daughters of the radical politician Richard Cobden, co-founder of the anti-Corn-Law League in 1838. He had 5 daughters of whom Jane and Anne were leading suffragettes. The cover was sent at the time of their mother's death. (R9)
